It's an arcade belt-scroller overflowing with playable characters, special moves, background details, and replay value. I always remember WinkySoft for Macross Scrambled Valkyrie on the SFC, but their best game might be Guardians/Denjin Makai II. I always find these people who go on to make enormous things in the weirdest places on the Famicom. Not a big name developer in the west, but two years later they developed something for the Game Boy: Super Robot Taisen. Also they re-arranged the levels for the US release for some reason. Tom Sawyer is a terrible game, one of the worst on the system. Every time anything MegaTen shows up somewhere, I am drawn to think about that lovely job.įamicom fact of the day: Tom Sawyer no Bouken (released in the US as The Adventures of Tom Sawyer) was the first game by a developer who went on to big things. Long ago in near-distant land, I was a game master for a F2P MMO called Shin Megami Tensei: Imagine. But the Super Famicom version is a lot more pleasant than the earlier versions of the first two Megami Tensei titles. So it's not exactly a great experience I'd recommend. It's still very clunky, as you'd expect from a SNES-era first person dungeon crawl, and has a bunch of serious early RPG fuckery (a lot of "backtrack through the last dungeon to find a random square that didn't do anything when you were first here, but now you have to go there to get a widget that you need or the endboss is literally unbeatable"). It's a remake of the first two games for SFC, implementing some of the quality of life improvements introduced in Shin Megami Tensei. Unless you're super devoted to playing the original incarnation I'd suggest at least playing Kyuuyaku Megami Tensei instead of the original Megami Tensei 1&2. does the famicom game hold up or should i start at some other point in the series? I think this should be the year when i finally become a MegaTen guy.
